Today most of us use a bluetooth enabled phone.In order to use a bluetooth dongle to connect a phone and a pc ,following can be done.

Bluez is a package for connecting PC and a bluetooth device using bluetooth dongle.

Bluez consists of following packages.

  • bluez-libs-3.14.tar.gz ..
  • bluez-utils-3.14.tar.gz ..
  • bluez-firmware-1.2.tar.gz ..
  • bluez-hcidump-1.40.tar.gz ..
  • bluez-gnome-0.13.tar.gz ...

These packages are to be downloaded and installed..( Popular distros like ubuntu7.04 and fedora 7 comes with this utility by default.

In order to use it do the following.

Run bluetooth applet by using the command

$ bluetooth-applet


This will show a bluetooth applet at upper panel of gnome desktop ( at right up).

Right click on the applet and open preferences.

Select Visible and connectable to other device.

Now switch on bluetooth of your mobile phone and look for devices.

If the need is to transfer from phone to pc go to Application --->System Tools ---> Bluetooth File sharing.

Now send the file.

[N.B If bluetooth file sharing is not enabled "srvice not supported " error will be encounterd ]

Now if you want to send a file from pc to phone,just right click on that application and "send to " option will be bluetooth OBEX tranfer .

Now send the file.
